SALIDA – Max Devereaux laced a two-out, two RBI single in the fifth inning Thursday that ended the game via the eight-run mercy rule, giving the Ripon Mets a 9-1 win over the Patterson Mariners in quarterfinal action of the Little League District 67 Majors Baseball Tournament of Champions at Salida Park.

Devereaux’s walk-off capped a four-run fifth for the Mets. Connor Paris (2 for 3, home run, two RBI, two runs) led off the frame with a single followed by walks to Holden Peelman and Dominic Nevarez to load the bases.

George Jordagalon (RBI, two runs) walked in Paris and Hank Wilmhurst singled in Peelman, bringing Devereaux to the plate with his single that scored Nevarez and Jordagalon to end the game.

Paris got Ripon on the board with a two-run home run in the third inning, scoring Gabriel Jara for a 2-0 lead. Nevarez and Jase Blanco drew back-to-back walks to start the fifth with Jordagalon sneaking a single into center field to plate Nevarez. Devereaux then got his first two-RBI single of the night, scoring Blanco and Jordagalon for a 5-0 lead.

Peelman went the first three innings on the hill for the Mets, allowing the first two Mariners batters to reach on a walk and a single before retiring the next nine batters in a row, striking out three and not allowing a ball into the outfield. Bo Brayton pitched the final two innings, allowing two hits and one unearned run.

Ripon will face Weston Ranch on Saturday morning at 10 in the semifinal tilt. Weston Ranch took advantage of four two-out errors by tournament host Salida to notch the quarterfinal win on Thursday, winning the game on a walk-off wild pitch.
