Herm San Nicolas pitched a three-hit shutout on Tuesday, leading the Northgate 12-under all-stars to a 10-0 win over Spreckels Park in the District 67 Tournament at Thiemann Athletic Park.

Northgate faces host Ripon in the winners-bracket semifinal Thursday starting at 5:30.

San Nicholas fired six strikeouts and walked just one in four innings. Northgate secured the mercy-rule win in style, as shortstop Jayden Chavez ranged to his left and gloved a groundball from Spreckels Park clean-up batter Aiden Loveall behind the second-base bag before hurling it first while on the move for the final out.

Ealin Showers spearheaded Northgate’s 11-hit attack, going 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. All 12 of Northgate’s batters reached base at least once.

A two-out error plated San Nicolas and Chavez for Northgate’s first two runs in the opening frame. Cristian Ibarra kept the momentum going with a leadoff double in the second, and he was driven home by Orlando Bugarin’s two-bagger.

Northgate broke it open with a four-run rally in the third, getting RBI singles from Jaden Grimal, San Nicolas and Chavez. D.J. Ivers drilled a two-run single in the fourth inning. Ivers attempted to stretch the hit to a double but was thrown out at second by Spreckels Park right fielder Colton Graves. Northgate was able to widen its lead to double digits anyway, as Sammy Celli later batted in Showers with a single.

Spreckels Park had chances early to stay in the game but left three runners stranded in scoring position the first two innings. Skyler Patrick gave Spreckels Park one last glimmer of hope with a leadoff infield single in the third, but San Nicolas struck out the next two batters and induced a groundout to shortstop. Two of Spreckels Park’s three hits did not leave the infield. Ace Midulla and Liam Nabb accounted for the other hits.

Spreckels Park will look to stave off elimination tonight against Salida.
