The City of Lathrop could soon have a Police Explorer Program.
The Lathrop City Council was looking at a resolution Monday’s monthly session to establish such a program through the Lathrop Police Department.
Elected leaders reviewed and discussed the proposed program – a youth development initiative aimed at engaging younger Lathrop residents and / or students with an interest in law enforcement or public service – at their May 12 meeting
Once approved, the program of the Lathrop Police Department would then look to accept local residents / students between the ages of 14 through 20 – a maximum of five participants per cohort to equal up to 20 participants.
Applicants must not only be from Lathrop but also nave parental consent with a required background check, be in good academic standings, and sign a year commitment to complete the program.
Those accepted will have an opportunity to take part in classroom lectures, teamwork exercises, patrol ride-a-longs, field work training, physical training, and interact with guest speakers from various law enforcement agencies.
